Should Christians Be Armed?

While checking out Pat Boone's IDiotic statements about evolution [Charles Darwin's Funny Joke] I noticed this icon in the sidebar. Naturally I couldn't resist clicking on it.

I ended up at a site advertising the book Shooting Back. Here's what I read,
What would you do if armed terrorists broke into your church and starting attacking your friends with automatic weapons in the middle of a worship service?

Would you be prepared to defend yourself and other innocents?

Would you be justified in doing so?

Is it time for Americans to consider such once-unthinkable possibilities?

There is one man in the world who can address these questions with first-hand experience.

His name is Charl van Wyck – a South African who was faced with just such a shocking scenario.

In "Shooting Back: The Right and Duty of Self-Defense," van Wyk makes a biblical, Christian case for individuals arming themselves with guns, and does so more persuasively than perhaps any other author because he found himself in a church attacked by terrorists.
Wow! That's all we need. IDiots with guns. In church.

Don't you just love America?

How many of your friends have been gunned down?. I have ten South African friends that have been murdered.South Africa is as violent a place as Iraq.

If their gods would have wanted worshipers to carry guns, they should have started the universe with fireworks. Eh, wait, ..., so it did. But seriously, the "christ" in christians stands for NT stuff that tried to wrest that religion away from the OT "an eye for an eye" and "make war" to "turn the other cheek" and "make sacrifices". And Martin Luther King (or Gandhi) showed that it worked in certain situations. They don't even try - what is wrong with these guys?

While I'm not keen on unnecessary regulation, gun licenses with shooting practice and range limitations isn't it. More guns, more violence - the causation is proved long since. (I'm also quite happy with not having to see a lot of different police and paramilitary forces moving around in the society, each flaunting heavy guns. But that is a different gun problem.)

T:
Well, the book isn't arguing to South African's, is it? In an unruly society where gun laws can't be enforced, it is different. And that difference is part of the problem here.

Is this multiple choice? I think the correct answer is "Turn the other cheek. After all, an immediate freed ride to Heaven is quite a gift for these terrorists to give you. You should be grateful. Right?

Perhaps you should spend less time around the fume hood, Gil.

I spent a good part of the years 1989-94 in Canada (mostly Edmonton, a bit in Calgary), so I know this is kind of difficult for folks North of the Border to imagine, but for many Americans (definitely not me), give 'em a gun and they *are* in church, i.e., having a religious experience.

For example, people as disturbed as RO'B used to be cared for in places where they wouldn't harm themselves or others.
