Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day is a bit unusual. It shows a time in the distant future when I'll be able to drive from Toronto to Cape Town in just a few days. Unfortunately, Cape Town will no longer be on the cape.
Btw, when I looked for references, I noted the uncanny resemblance between the future Pangea Ultima and the former Pangea, or even the first recorded supercontinent Rodinia. The plates with continents come together in much the same way. Shaken, not stirred.
I'am afraid Wilkins is too optimistic : I guess that Australia gets even drier than today because most of the rain comming from the west will fall over Antarctica.
It looks like Toronto and Cape Town will be quite close. I'm guessing the "a few days" thing is because there will be a large mountain range between them?

On the bright side, Australia should be nice and green then, with the roaring 40s bringing unimpeded moisture-laden winds over it.
Not to cool down John's expectations, but I seemed to remember that supercontinents leads to glaciations. And indeed it is claimed that the supercontinent part of the supercontinent cycles leads to low sea levels and Icehouse climates, or at least extreme climates.
