Not Ready to Make Nice
I'm not usually a fan of country music and I'm not usually fond of people from Texas, but I'll make an exception for the Dixie Chicks. I just watched them sing Not Ready to Make Nice on the Grammy Awards show. Introduced by Joan Baez, no less (see below).

I hear you on not being a country music fan, but these "grrls" have won me over. This is a great song, sung well.
"not fond of people from Texas"
This is the sort of comment one usually hears from bigots.
Have you ever been to Texas?
Did you know that one of the premier centers for cancer research and treatment is in Texas?
Did you know that one of the best heart hospitals in the world is in Texas?
Did you know that the center of NASA's work is in Texas?
Apparently not.
Very provincial thinking on your part.
Just because Bush is from Texas doesn't mean we're all like him.

Lighten up.

Yes.

One of the stereotypical characteristics of Texans is that they like to brag about how their state is biggest and best at everything. It makes them so endearing.
My tongue-in-cheek comment referred to people from Texas, not things that are in Texas. Do you know the difference?
Very provincial thinking on your part.
Gee, and I thought "provincial" was a word we apply to people who don't see beyond the borders of their state and can't take a bit of teasing. :-)

Yep. That's exactly the point that the Dixie Chicks make.
Look what happened to them when they made it. You better be careful, you never know who might be reading this. :-)
"My tongue-in-cheek comment referred to people from Texas, not things that are in Texas. Do you know the difference?"
Those "Things", such as M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute, St. Lukes and Methodist Hospitals, and NASA, are people.
Hills and lakes are "things".
Institutes and centers of medicine and science are all about people.
Yes, I know the difference.
I now accept that your original remarks were "tongue in cheek", and so no offense is taken.
Happy Darwin Day!
