I think the Biochemist's version should have included other sugars too, they were a bit too obsessive on glucose.

It's old-fashioned "rat liver biochemistry." In modern biochemistry, mammalian fuel metabolism is only a small part of carbohydrate metabolism. The only reason we talk about it is because we're mammals.

Most species never see free glucose and glycolysis isn't nearly as important as gluconeogenesis. Nevertheless, it's a cute song.
