White Water

These photos were taken near the Champlain Bridge on the Ottawa river not far from where I grew up. This is right in the heart of Ottawa (Canada).

We never saw anything like this when we were children. The most exciting thing on the Champlain rapids was the occasional log and, rarely, a canoe shooting the rapids.

I'm terrified of kayaks... and yet it looks like they're having loads of fun.

BTW, I was wondering why you add (Canada) after Ottawa -- doesn't everyone know where Ottawa is? So I Googled. I found an Ottawa in the U.S.states of Illinois and Kansas, and stopped looking. Being Californian, though, sometimes Illinois and Kansas seem far more foreign to me than Canada.

Those kayaks are pathetic. Where are you supposed to put the beer?

Give me a big double sea kayak any day, preferably with central as well as front and rear hatches. There's room for lots of booze (we fill the front hatch with ice, the sea water keeps it cold even on hot days), fresh fruit, decent food, a big tent and an inflatable air mattress. There's nothing like a gin and tonic (with ice and lime) on the beach after a hard few hours of paddling.

River boats? Pah. Whatever.

Happy Birthday today!

All those guys look rather OLD! Perhaps this is why they appealed to you:) If I'd have been on the ball I should have purchased you a kayak!
