Congratulations Carl Zimmer

It's often said that "real" science journalists are passionate about presenting accurate science [see Chris Mooney].

Strangely, in spite of this passion, they've tended to remain very silent when a major newspaper publishes inaccurate scientific information—at least in the fields I'm interested in.

That changed a little bit with the George Will affair in the past week. George Will is a Pulitzer Roze winning journalist (not a science journalist). He wrote about global climate change in The Washington Post. Apparently there's another piece in the press.

Carl Zimmer takes him on: George Will: Locked In Ice!. Congratulations Carl! This is why you are one of the best science journalists.

Just out of curiosity, does Prof. Moran think that Chris Mooney is a good science writer?

Thanks, Larry. I'd suggest that people not go to the post you linked to, but to my very latest (last?), which I posted early this morning. It's the whole saga, concluding with even more errors in Will's new column (in which he tries to deny making errors in his first column). http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/loom/2009/02/27/unchecked-ice-a-saga-in-five-chapters/

Whoops. Here's the link for those who hate to cut and paste.

I don't know. I haven't read his "science" articles.

I have read his articles on framing. They don't inspire confidence.

From Prof. Morans' response, I take it that he hasn't read either of Mr. Mooneys' books.

No, I haven't. Which one is about accurate science?

His first book, the Rethuglican War on Science was about the distortions and lies of the right wing Rethuglicans.

His second book was about the issue of the relationship between global warming and hurricanes, which I think was quite informative to a layman about the subject.
