I don't expect the IDiots to agree with me. I don't expect them to be happy about what I say. But I do expect them to tell the truth, or at least make the attempt.
Over at Evolution News & Views David Klinghoffer posted the following under: At Forbes, John Farrell Joins in "Ayala'ing" of Jonathan Wells.
Thus we have several posts from University of Toronto biochemist Larry Moran, criticizing Myth while being totally open about not having read it first. Moran wrote no fewer than four posts on the book in this fashion, claiming as an excuse that Myth would not be published in Canada until May 31. (In fact, the book was available for purchase from Amazon since early May.)The four postings are:
- Junk & Jonathan: Part 1—Getting the History Correct—a posting in which I addressed an interview of Jonathan Wells conducted by Denise O'Leary.
- Junk & Jonathan: Part 2— What Did Biologists Really Say About Junk DNA?—a posting in which I addressed an interview of Jonathan Wells conducted by Denise O'Leary.
- Junk & Jonathan: Part 3—The Preface—a discussion of the preface that was posted online.
- See the IDiots Gloat over Jonathan Wells—a blog posting about what David Klinghoffer had to say about me and the book.
My order was placed weeks ago on amazon.ca. Their website said that the book would not be released until May 31. Fortunately amazon.ca was able to ship it to me last week and I was happy to get it.
Now that I've read the book it will be interesting to see if David Klinghoffer has any comments about my review.
Larry, you're getting some attention from Cornie Hunter as well, check the last few posts on his blog.
ReplyDeleteP.S: I previously signed as Physeter.
Poor Dr. Moran. He is so thin skinned.
ReplyDeleteHe hands out ridicule and disdain constantly but does not like any criticism of himself.

Lets see, Klinghoffer posts something that is untrue, which means he has been caught doing exactly what he falsely accuses Larry of doing (not reading something he is criticizing), or Klinghoffer has simply made it up. Larry points this out and he is "thin skinned" because of it.
Wow, Larry must have really hit the mark with this post if your desperate hand waving is anything to go by.

Did you even read this post that you're commenting under? Apparently you either did not, or you did but have seriously poor reading comprehension skills. This post wasn't about Dr. Moran being butthurt over ridicule, disdain or criticism. This post was about Klinghoffer misleadingly stating that Moran reviewed Wells' book without having read it first, something Moran really didn't do. This has nothing to do with thin-skinned or whining over criticism.
You and Klinghoffer both really need to learn how to read.
By the way, it should also be pointed out that Mr. Wells, in addition to being an IDiot is also an HIV/AIDS denialist and a global warming denialist.
ReplyDeleteDr. Moran is not thin skinned because of it. He is simply thin skinned.
ReplyDeletePeople here can hand out ridicule and sarcasm but are thin skinned when it comes to any implied criticism of themselves.
Does Mr. Anonymous agree with Mr. Wells that HIV doesn't cause AIDS and that global warming is a hoax. Inquiring minds want to know.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Larry would like to explain why there are specific sequence motifs in Alu elements that make up 10% of the genome and which can be incorporated into
ReplyDeleteMaybe he would also care to explain why these elements have been preserved by selection and show little polymorphism.
If he can do both, he will have his epiphany and road to Damascus.
Dr. Moran is not thin skinned because of it. He is simply thin skinned.

You are completely wrong of course. Dr. Moran certainly isn't so thin-skinned that he doesn't allow dissenting and even insulting comments on his blog. Even your error-prone comments are up. Now tell me, where is the comment section on Evolution News & Views? Who is thin skinned again?
"But I do expect them to tell the truth, or at least make the attempt."
ReplyDeleteReally? Why would you expect that?

Is that where a strand of DNA appears and wails, "Lawrence, Lawrence, why persecutest thou me?"?
I've always found it insightful -- pardon the pun -- that a revelation on the road to Damascus leaves one BLIND, rather than able to see... a telling point, I think; a secret sinful admission of the nature of the experience.
