the black knight reference comes from talk.origins
Yep, for sure. Some time mid 1990s. 15 years later, absolutely nothing has changed. Which just shows what a waste of time it is arguing with creationists. Like Usenet trolls, they are better ignored and not paid any attention to.
The Black Knight is a great stand-in for any of the Senior Fools . . .er, . . I mean Senior Fellows, who happily swim in the intellectual cesspool that is the Discovery Institute.
As much as I hate the DI, I have to admit that certain questions still trouble me. For example, why is PZ such an asshole? There must be an evolutionary explanation.
I think it was Sean Carroll who first made an analogy between the Black Knight and creationists. At least, that's where I got it from when I used the analogy in a blog post a while back.

ReplyDeleteIn my case the black knight reference comes from talk.origins back in 1990. At least that's when I first saw it.
I'm pretty sure it goes back to the early days of talk.origins in the 1980s and probably even before that.
