From the CTV website: Fox News host apologizes in face of Canadian outrage. [See the video at: Here's What Fox News Thinks of Canada's Military.]
The host of a Fox News program has apologized for a segment on the Canadian military that Defence Minister Peter MacKay called "disgusting" and "crass."I wonder if they've ever treated 9/11 in a "lighthearted, humorous and ridiculous" manner? What about the USA? Have they ever mocked their own country on this show?
A group of pundits on "Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld," which airs weekdays at 3 a.m. on Fox News, each took turns trashing Canada and its military during an episode that aired on March 17.
...
Gutfeld issued an apology Monday afternoon saying, "I realize that my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize."
But the host also seemed to defend his program, adding "Red Eye is a satirical take on the news, in which all topics are addressed in a lighthearted, humorous and ridiculous manner."
Greg Gutfeld is an ass. Bill Schulz, on his twitter account left a note that was essentially a "fuck you" to Canada. I did a little thing on my site about it, but these clowns don't care.
ReplyDeleteI truly wish stupid was painful, because all five members on that panel would be at least in hospital, or possibly dead.
geez... no, you offended canadians are wrong on this one. What you should do is try to poke fun at the US. Answer humor with humor, see who is baddest.
ReplyDeleteSuch bleeding egos! Oh, the fury! C'mon, Canadians. Its just a joke show. If you take yourselves so seriously, you are just... funny,
I wouldn't say ithere is anything comparable to 9/11, nor does it need to escalate into an international incident (but apparently it already is) . I didi not perceive the Fox people as wanting to make fun of dead canadian soldiers. This is crazy, sorry
ReplyDeleteI think it's more a resentment that the US started the war in Afghanistan, then moved the majority of their forces to Iraq. This left behind an under-equipped coalition of US, Canadian, British, Dutch, etc behind to deal with the mess. And things are going very, very badly.
ReplyDeleteThe current tour of Canadian soldiers has 19 dead since September (in the "low fighting" season). I don't have numbers for the rest of the forces there. This is now 116 Canadian soldiers dead on this mission. Generals are now openly musing that we cannot win the war with the current effort. Really nice.
Then, this show thought is was funny to mock a military for almost 9 years of getting blown up in the US's place. They show just supplied an outlet for our collective anger, I believe.
Jim, you hit the nail right on the head.
ReplyDeleteThey (the US) abandoned us half way through the war. To be criticized by the very people who cut-and-run is beyond insulting.
But hey, its faux-news. Expecting balanced, or even factual news from them would be like expecting to find a virgin in a whorehouse.
"geez... no, you offended canadians are wrong on this one. What you should do is try to poke fun at the US. Answer humor with humor, see who is baddest"
ReplyDeleteMaking fun of Americans is so easy, it's not even funny anymore. But I'll give it a try.
How many Americans do you need to change a lightbulb?
Three. One to hold the new lightbulb, one to look for the instructions in the Bible, and a pastor to make sure that however they do the job, they won't end up inadvertently supporting Darwinism.
" One to hold the new lightbulb, one to look for the instructions in the Bible, and a pastor to make sure that however they do the job, they won't end up inadvertently supporting Darwinism."
ReplyDeleteWrong - you need 4 - One to hold the new lightbulb, one to look for the instructions in the Bible, and a pastor to make sure that however they do the job, they won't end up inadvertently supporting Darwinism, and one to apologize to draft-dodging drug-addict Rush Limbaugh if anything you may have muttered while changing said light bulb could be construed as critical of him or his brain-dead followers...
