I've been on that crosswalk dozens of times because it's right near a house in St. John's Wood where I once stayed while in London. Here's a photograph (below) of the owner of that house along with some of his friends. You don't have to be very old to have been around when this photo was taken but you do have to have some knowledge of the history of biochemistry and molecular biology.
How many of you can name all the scientists in this photo? (No peeking at the comments.)

Hmmmm ... that explains why the cars are on the wrong side of the road. I thought someone reversed the photos.
DeleteWhy doesn't the third guy from the left wear shoes? Is he dead? Maybe the registration plate on the car will give us some clue.

ReplyDeleteA quick peek at my copy of "molecular biology of the cell" provided me with the names. But I must confess I didn't know them by heart.

ReplyDeleteThese are the authors of Molecular Biology of the Cell 3rd edition. From right to left: Bruce Alberts, Dennis Bray, Julian Lewis, Martin Raff, Keith Roberts, and Jim Watson. Contrary to rumor, Martin Raff is not dead.

In other words, he's about the nicest guy on the planet. Well... Martin Raff, standing in front of him, is in a tie for nicest guy on the planet. Watch his Web of Stories on line! It's terrific. No idea who the next two guys are, BUT in the front we have Bruce Alberts. Known for his climbing and refrigerator raiding skills.
