It sure does. Surely there were very few places in 1950s and absolutely not a single one in 21st century that would have had a luxury of allowing a postdoc and an overaged graduate student submitting a paper to Nature without including all the bread and butter earners above them in hierarchy.
The moral of the story is that 'place matters'.
