Hey, what's with the new fangled electric lamp? A curved mirror collecting the light of a candle, or the outdoors, works just as well.
A 180 degrees rotation around X axis would have been more helpful... OK, so there is a light source but seemingly no eye piece anywhere... OK then, based on the overall setup, the best guess I have is polarimeter.
