Arlo Guthrie: City of New Orleans

While poking around on YouTube I stumbled across this performance by Arlo Guthrie of one of the best songs ever. I just had to share it with the one or two other people who might agree with me. The song was written by Steve Goodman in 1970.

  1. Dork again. You should have picked Willie Nelson's version :)

  2. I disagree -- the Arlo version is great. Not anything against Willie. But after having heard Arlo sing it live 10 or so times when I was a kid, it is now my favorite song.

  3. Anyone who likes Willie Nelson shouldn't be calling others dorks. :-)

  4. Actually, Steve Goodman's own version is, in my opinion, the best. Goodman was a terrific songwriter who died too young. When I lived in Chicago, I heard him play several times in small venues on the north side.

That's interesting. I don't know anything about Goodman. I didn't even know he was a singer.

John Denver also covered it but his version was the worst.
