44% for "the only rational outlook" now. And it has the same number of votes as the previous one (1/4 of people think that domestic violence shouldn't be grounds for divorce?!)
I'm astonished - "The only rational outlook" is now at 70%. Come on folks, 'fess up - who hacked the poll? (I admit that I can hardly wait to see how CT reacts.)
One site, full of angry atheists/agnostics who know how to flood badly made polls. It made me laugh, but I wish they stopped at a reasonable percentage. It would have been funny to convince the Christians that their readers actually supported the evil sinners.
"Can we select 2? I'd like to think that the first option [Atheism is a major threat to Christianity] is true as well as the second."
What silliness! Atheism cannot possibly be any threat to Christianity, let alone a major threat. The bible teaches that no sheep will be lost (you cannot lose your salvation) and that he who is in a Christian is stronger than he who is in the world—so again, what would be the threat to Christianity from atheists? Why, the mind reels. To believe such a thing is to believe that someone like Sam Harris, when he is not on a different a different astral plane (rationality, after all, being the hallmark of atheism) or that Christopher Hitchens, when not busily supporting the war (rationality, after all, being the hallmark of atheism) can thwart the will of God.

How deep in a Christian do you have to be to achieve the desired effect?
Its not a hack, actually. it got /b/ombarded by 4chan. Plus, you can still see the results, if you have a bit of HTML know-how. the people at Christianity today seem to host the poll on another site, Pollmonkey or something, according to NoScript. if you check the source code of the site, you can tell they just had someone comment out the block of HTML that that actually shows the Poll. if you copy the source to your HD, and remove the comment, then open it with your browser, you can see the poll progress, albeit in a fairly messed up page. Current percentage is at 97% at time of writing.
Hmmm... I just voted and got the same number of "total votes" as you; shouldn't it have incremented if it counted my vote?
ReplyDeleteSomething is fubar. I voted just now and it displays the total number of votes as being 1194. The total number from the vote about divorce is 1929.
ReplyDeleteHmm... What do we win, if we win?
ReplyDeletePerhaps a link at the bottom of the CToday Home Page "For the Rational View of the World, visit Sandwalk, www...."
Wow! "The only rational outlook" is now ahead at 41% of 1561 votes!
ReplyDeleteDid all of alt.atheism show up en masse, or something?
Can we select 2? I'd like to think that the first option is true as well as the second.

ReplyDelete"only rational outlook" 45%
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope, rising.
I can imagine how happy "Christianity today" -guys (and The Writer and Designer of that poll) are.
Priceless.

ReplyDeleteNow 88%.
ReplyDeleteSuperstition Today.. Magazine of Irrational Conviction.
Yup, 88% 13,000+ votes.
ReplyDeleteProof that the US evangelical movement is an elaborate practical joke. Those wacky guys!
I'll tell you, I suspected this all along.
Holy crap, it's now at 97%!!! i wonder if it was a "hacker" or if a lot of sites like this one linked to it?

ReplyDelete83430 votes now. I was wondering why I couldn't figure out how to enter a vote. If they have frozen it, they haven't taken it down. Yet.
ReplyDeleteAmstar,

Oh, I wonder if it is God or Satan that fixed the poll? Or at least which one of the two CT will use as an excuse....
ReplyDeleteThey took it down.
ReplyDeleteThe front page of the site still shows the link to the atheism poll, but the poll itself is down.
A variety of hypotheses could account for this result. Here's a few that spring to mind:
ReplyDelete1) Atheists are better cheaters
2) Atheists have better meme dispersal networks
3) Atheism is the only rational outlook
